.. Niczym wielka kula śniegowa, ulepiona z historii, stoi w samym sercu Warszawy. Gdy pada słynne pytanie: gdzie jest krzyż? Wszyscy odpowiadają: tu jest krzyż. I więcej.

Kiedy Kula została wzniesiona, okazało się, że żadna ze stron, nie jest w stanie odbijać piłki dalej, gdyż piłka była po prostu za ciężka. Stała się punktem wspólnym dla tych, którzy chcieli żyć z tęsknotą patrząc wstecz i dystansem spoglądając przed siebie, oraz tamtych, którzy z nadzieją zerkali w przyszłość i równie konsekwentnie odwracali się plecami do przeszłości.

Odkąd stanęła pośrodku placu Piłsudskiego, zniknęła kwestia tego, czy stawiać nowe pomniki czy już dać sobie spokój. Każdy kolejny zostaje doklejony do istniejącej bryły, poczynając od pomnika Ofiar Katastrofy Smoleńskiej, na który dzięki temu działaniu znalazło się miejsce w centrum miasta.

Dalej, każda grupa, która czuła się nie dość reprezentowana w zbiorowej historii, mogła od tej pory zaistnieć wobec narodowego panteonu, jednocześnie unikając zbiorowej histerii, która dotychczas bywała jedyna znaną alternatywą.

Fakt, że potraktowaliśmy serio to, że lubimy pokazywać nasze emocje na bogato, okazało się zbawienne. Z jednej strony można teraz zdobyć się na dystans, i to co daje dystans – ogrom historii ujęty w jednym spojrzeniu. Z drugiej – stojąc pod Kulą da się poczuć (niemalże fizycznie) prawdziwy ciężar historii, którą się czciło nad Wisłą, i ujrzeć jej wszystkie możliwe meandry i warianty. I zbudować z puli wszystkich możliwych elementów swoją narrację, wybierając niektóre elementy, i odsuwając na dalszy plan inne. Oraz poczuć, że w Warszawie, umarli ustąpili w końcu miejsca żywym – co było poniekąd sensem tych ofiar, których pomniki budują Kulę.

Podstawę Kuli stanowi Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza, który został przesunięty o około sto metrów na potrzeby budowy. Z kolei jednym ze zwieńczeń, stał się porośnięty trawą Bunkier Anielewicza, z którego zieleń mogła zacząć piąć się po konstrukcji (gdyż zieleni w mieście nigdy za wiele). Okazało się, że ostatecznie praca sfinansowała się sama, z ponownego zagospodarowania gruntów, które wcześniej były zajmowane przez poszczególne pomniki.

 ..Just as a snowball, made from history, it stands in the heart of Warsaw. When the famous question is asked: Where is the cross? Everyone answer: Here is the cross. And more.

When the Sphere was erected, it turned out that none of the opponent sides is able to pass the buck anymore, since the issue is too large. It bacame a common ground for those who want to live life yearning for what has passed, and distancing themselves from what is to come, and others, who look forward with hope, and consequently turned away from the past.

Since it was placed in the middle of plac Piłsudskiego (square), question whether to erect more monuments, or ease up on it, vanished. Each consecutive monument is glued to the existing block, beginning with the monument of the Smolensk Disaster Victims, for which, thanks to this action, a place in the center of the city was found.

Furthermore, each group which felt underrepresented in the mass history, could find its place against national pantheon, and at the same time evade mass histery, which up to the point was the only known alternative.

The fact that we took seriously our fondness for full blown displays of emotions, was a salvation. On one side, one can now distance oneself, and gain a perspective that distancing gives – enormity of history captured in one single gaze. On the other side, standing under the Sphere allows one to feel real weight of the history, which was worshipped in Poland, and to perceive all of her possible meanders and variants. And to create from the pool of all possible elements one’s own narration, by choosing some, and moving others into background. And, feel that in Warsaw the dead finally made way for the living – what was somehow the point of the sacrifices, monuments of which make up the Sphere.

The base of the Sphere constitutes Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier) which was moved about a hundred meters for the purpose of the construction. One of the peaks is a grass covered Bunkier Anielewicza (Anielewicz’s Bunker), from which vegatation could start to expand over the structure. And as it turned out, the work managed to pay for itself from the sales of the city grounds that were previously taken by individual monuments.
